The Hoosier Kitefliers Society (HKS) was established in October, 1986 by twelve kite enthusiasts who held regular meetings at the Anderson/Madison County Visitors Bureau.
Today, the HKS consists of enthusiasts from several states who share the common bond of the love of kites. Our purpose is to educate the public in the art, history, technology, and practice of building and flying kites and to advance kiting, its joys, and values.
We work together to promote kiting by planning and coordinating kite activities, kite workshops, and kite demonstrations in conjunction with other community events.
Kites catch the imagination of both children and adults and can be a valuable learning tool. Kite flying is also a great option for family entertainment.
Some of the privileges of becoming an HKS member include: a subscription to the HKS, Inc. publication "Ride the Wind," a membership card, a copy of the HKS by-laws (upon request only), the right to nominate officers and vote in general proceedings of the organization and most important, friends in the field. To take full advantage of these benefits we encourage you to participate in the HKS activities.
National Kite Month is in April and we have another year full of opportunities to “go fly a kite!” So come experience in and share the joys of kiting!
