HKS influence reaches to Africa

HKS member Missy Orr, who is serving as a Peace Corps volunteer, recently conducted a kids' kite-building workshop in Senegal and made quite an impression, not only on the kids but her fellow Peace Corps volunteers, as well. Read about it in a blog one of her fellow volunteers wrote.

Roller kite from estate saleA member of Illinois Kite Enthusiasts (IKE) bought a collection of dozens of large, single-line kites from the widow of a kite flier. The IKE member is now selling off parts of the collection and is offering IKE and HKS members first choice of the available kites before he starts listing them on national forums.

The IKE member specifically asked that HKS members be informed of this opportunity. For more information, follow this link to the appropriate forum thread on the IKE website.

Cincinnati Airwaves kite fest canceled

Airwaves KiteFest logoOrganizers of the Airwaves Kite Festival in Cincinnati have canceled the annual April event. In an email message, Chris Phelps of Cincinnati Public Radio wrote, "Due to ongoing construction at Voice of America Park as well as the loss of our presenting sponsor WGUC has decided that we cannot go forward with organizing and presenting the Airwaves KiteFest in the upcoming years."

"This was a difficult and sad decision for us," Phelps continued, "especially because of all the wonderful friends we have made over the years."
